For your travel bookshelf this week...

Hello!

This week, a reminder that entries are now open for our New Travel Writer of the Year Competition. This year’s theme is 'An Animal Encounter' - and we’re looking for true, first-hand stories, whether your animal encounter was wild, domestic or somewhere in between.

Travelling with a four-legged friend? Our new article explores how to spend a weekend in the wonderful city of Glasgow with your dog, with plenty of ideas for making the most of a city break together.

Plus, there are some exciting new releases on the Bradt App, including our guide to Catalunya and Barcelona!

Until next time,

The Bradt Team

Our Catalunya & Barcelona guide is now available on the Bradt App – your ideal companion to a region of extraordinary contrasts, from the Pyrenees mountains to sparkling Mediterranean coves.

Beyond Barcelona’s iconic Gaudí architecture, discover the Costa Brava’s fishing villages and hidden beaches, the historic cities of Girona, Tarragona and Lleida, the mountains of the Pyrenees and the exquisite landscapes of French Catalunya.

Packed with local insight, history, culture, nature and plenty of reasons to get off the beaten path, it’s the perfect guide to have on the go – whether you’re chasing mountain views, medieval villages, Catalan cuisine or a sunny afternoon by the water.

Our New Travel Writer of the Year Competition is back - and this year’s theme is ‘An Animal Encounter.’

We’re looking for a true, first-hand story of 600–800 words. And don’t worry, your encounter doesn’t have to involve a wild animal: we’re casting the net wide, so stories about domestic, feral and farmyard animals are all welcome too!

For inspiration, take a look at Beastly Journeys, our anthology of animal travel writing.

Glasgow is the sort of city where a dog in town turns heads – usually in delight.

A busy, buzzy working city with five higher-education institutions and a growing financial and business services sector, the city is more suits than Salukis. But that doesn’t mean there’s little for dogs – and their owners – to enjoy here.

Here's what you need to know.

In this issue of The Inside Track, Hilary Bradt finds unexpected echoes of her own travels in The Odyssey. From the ancient Law of Zeus and the enduring importance of kindness to the powerful pull of home at the end of a long journey, she reflects on what it means to travel, and on the restlessness that can follow a return home. *** I’ve been reflecting on the film The Odyssey, brought into focus by the guilty realisation that I’ve never read that epic poem, despite my grandfather doing the...
