June in review: Bradt's best bits

June in Review

June has been a busy month at Bradt, with new books hitting the shelves, fresh features landing on the website and the countdown continuing to our Photographing the British Isles Competition deadline...

We marked World Environment Day by exploring the positive impact that Slow Travel can have on both travellers and the places they visit. From there, we looked further ahead, imagining what travel could look like in 50 years if sustainability remains at the heart of how we explore the world.

Tickets also went on sale for William Gray's special event at Stanfords on 30th July, where he'll announce the winners of our Photography Competition and share his expert advice on capturing the beauty of the region. If you're still hoping to enter, there's not long left - the competition closes in just two days!

Meanwhile, our editorial team has been hard at work, publishing five guidebooks this month. We welcomed Málaga & the Costa del Sol, Seville and Dog-Friendly Weekends: Cotswolds to our catalogue, alongside fully updated guides to Taiwan and Madagascar.

The new releases have also inspired plenty of fresh content on the website. We've been uncovering the best food and drink experiences in Taiwan, rounding up pet-friendly escapes in Oxford and sharing our guide to the very best things to do in the Andalucian capital.

Whether you’re visiting for a leisurely afternoon or a full weekend of exploration, the city provides plenty of opportunities for both you and your dog to soak up its charm.

Here's what you need to know.

What will travel look like in 50 years?

In this thought-provoking video, a panel of travel experts shares their predictions for the future of travel, exploring how emerging technologies, changing traveller priorities and global challenges could reshape the way we experience the world.

From the journeys we'll take to the destinations we'll visit, it's a fascinating glimpse into what the next half-century of travel might have in store.

Entries close in two days!

If you've been meaning to submit your photographs, this is your final reminder...

Our new Photography Competition, launched in partnership with William Gray and the Royal Photographic Society, closes on 30 June 2026.

Open to amateur photographers aged 18+, we're looking for remarkable images captured across the British Isles. Whether it's a dramatic landscape, a memorable wildlife encounter, a striking city scene or a portfolio that tells a bigger story, now is your chance to share your work.

Entry is completely free and winners will receive an RPS membership and a place on a photography workshop!

A note from Hilary Bradt... In 1999, Janice Booth and I travelled to the Isles of Scilly hoping to see the total eclipse of the sun. A guide to the two forthcoming eclipses in that Bradt-friendly continent, Africa, was already in the pipeline, and Janice’s story, reproduced below, was published as a prologue. Janice died in 2024. If moved by some event or episode in her...
