We’re also delighted to share that Helen Watson has been shortlisted for the Ilse Schwepcke Prize for her book, Tea and Grit! The prize celebrates outstanding travel writing by women and we’re thrilled to see Helen’s work recognised among this year’s shortlist.

And if you haven’t joined The Travel Club yet, now is an excellent time. There are more offers and discounts available to members than ever before – from free books and savings on our guides to hugely discounted holidays with leading tour operators.

Until next time,

The Bradt Team

Our Northumberland Slow Travel Guide is now available on the Bradt App – your ideal companion to one of England’s wildest and most rewarding counties, from its sweeping beaches and ancient castles to the heather-clad Cheviot Hills.

Beyond the castles of Alnwick and Bamburgh and the ancient landscape of Hadrian’s Wall, discover peaceful villages, wildlife-rich coast and islands, hidden heritage sites, scenic walking and cycling routes and some of England’s darkest skies.

Packed with local insight, history, culture, nature and plenty of reasons to get off the beaten path, it’s the perfect guide to have on the go - whether you’re walking beside Hadrian’s Wall, exploring a windswept beach, cycling country lanes or looking up at a spectacular star-filled sky.

We’re thrilled to announce that Helen Watson - author of Journey Books title Tea and Grit - has been shortlisted for the Ilse Schwepcke Prize for women's travel writing!

In 2009, Helen cycled 15,000km from Glasgow to China, travelling through Syria, Turkey, Iran and Central Asia. Along the way, she encountered extraordinary hospitality, countless cups of tea and stories that challenged everything she thought she knew about the region.

Tea and Grit is a powerful celebration of travel, human connection and the importance of meeting strangers with curiosity rather than fear.

Congratulations Helen!
