πŸ“š For your travel bookshelf this week...

Hello!

5th June marked World Environment Day, the United Nations' annual campaign encouraging action to protect our planet and its natural resources. It's a cause that's particularly close to our hearts here at Bradt.

As a travel publishing house, we're fortunate to spend our days sharing some of the world's most remarkable places. But with that comes a responsibility to help protect them. We believe travel can be a force for good when it's done thoughtfully - supporting local communities, respecting natural environments and encouraging deeper connections with the places we visit.

This week, we're highlighting a few ways to travel more meaningfully, from slowing down and staying longer to taking the time to truly appreciate the world around us.

Until next time,

The Bradt Team

In a world that encourages us to see more, do more and move faster, our Slow Travel series champions a different approach.

Slow travel is all about spending longer in a destination, travelling more sustainably and building genuine connections with local people, cultures and landscapes. Rather than racing between landmarks, it encourages travellers to immerse themselves in a place, uncover hidden stories and enjoy richer, more rewarding experiences.

Through our growing collection of Slow Travel titles, you'll find inspiration for journeys that prioritise quality over quantity, helping you experience destinations in a way that's both more meaningful for you and more considerate of the places you visit.

Capture the British Isles

Sometimes the best way to appreciate a destination is simply to stop and take it in.

Our new photography competition invites you to do exactly that: pause, observe and celebrate the remarkable landscapes that make these islands so special.

Whether it's a windswept coastline, a peaceful countryside scene or an unexpected moment in nature, we're looking for photographs that showcase the beauty and character of the British Isles.

Not only could your image inspire fellow travellers to appreciate these places more deeply, but you'll also have the chance to win some fantastic prizes, including a Royal Photographic Society membership and a photography workshop with William Gray.

It’s free to enter, and you’ve got until 30 June 2026 to submit your shots!

What are you waiting for?

Explore More with the Bradt App

One of the ways we're encouraging travellers to explore the world more thoughtfully is through our travel app.

Designed to put trusted travel expertise directly in your pocket, it helps you travel with confidence while reducing the need to carry multiple guidebooks on the road.

With 14 titles already available and more being added all the time, the Bradt App makes it easier than ever to access detailed destination information wherever your travels take you.

Whether you're planning ahead or discovering hidden gems on the go, it's another way we're helping travellers engage more deeply with the places they visit.

What Will Travel Look Like in 50 Years?

This World Environment Day, we're not just thinking about where we'll travel next, but what travel itself might look like in 50 years' time.

This video explores the future of travel, examining how environmental challenges, new technologies and changing attitudes could transform the way we discover the world.

It's an opportunity to reflect on the role today's travellers can play in protecting the places we cherish.
