Win a trip to South Africa!

The prize is in...win a five-night South African adventure for two

We’re delighted to reveal the prize for our 2027 New Travel Writer of the Year Competition - and it’s one for the books.

The winner (and a guest of their choice) will be heading to South Africa for five unforgettable nights courtesy of Safari.com!

Your prize awaits…

Your South African adventure begins with three nights at a luxury lodge in a private reserve in the Sabi Sands or Greater Kruger, where you’ll have the chance to experience some of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife.

Then it’s on to Cape Town for two nights, giving you the chance to swap the bush for one of South Africa’s most spectacular cities.

And there’s plenty included to make the journey as seamless as possible:

  • Return economy flights from London
  • Internal flights within South Africa
  • All road transfers
  • Three nights at a luxury safari lodge
  • Scheduled game drives
  • All meals at the safari lodge
  • Two nights in Cape Town

The exact accommodation will be confirmed at the time of booking, so your trip will be tailored around availability when you’re ready to travel.

Meet your safari specialists

The prize comes courtesy of Safari.com, who have been creating tailor-made African safaris for 20 years, with more than 60,500 travellers experiencing Africa through the company since 2006.

Named 'Africa’s Leading Safari Company' at the World Travel Awards in 2024, 2025 and 2026, what sets their team apart is a belief in human responsibility.

Every traveller has two named points of contact – the safari specialist who designs the trip, and a dedicated member of the concierge team – reachable whenever you need them, before, during and after the safari. No call centres, no bouncing between departments – just people who know your trip personally and have stayed in the lodges and driven the routes themselves.

Every booking includes complimentary travel insurance, and because lodges pay Safari.com's commission, travellers pay the same as booking direct.

Ready to enter?

The theme for this year’s travel writing competition is ‘An Animal Encounter’.

We’re looking for a true, first-hand travel story about a memorable encounter with an animal. It could be wild, domestic, feral or farmyard - from an unexpected meeting on safari to a surprising encounter much closer to home.

Your story should be 600–800 words and entires close 1st November 2026.

Good luck!

Terms and conditions apply. The prize is valid for travel for 12 months from the award date, excluding 20 December to 20 January, and is subject to availability. Visas, drinks, gratuities, spending money and anything not expressly listed above are excluded. The prize is non-transferable and there is no cash alternative.
